Windmill Stands Still

Dawn comes and I walk in the road

In my hand there's a bag full of wheat

This way ends to that great old windmill

A soft breeze shakes my hair like the leaves of a tree

                          There on that distant hill

                                       Windmill stands still

If the windmill doesn't move as I want

I will blow like the wind to make it wind

Cos I've brought some wheat in order to grind'

                         There on that distant hill

                                       Windmill stands still

While noon appears I'm passing through the farmlands

It's a strange feeling, I can see exhaustion in farmers' hands

Sheep and cows are grazing in these vast plains

All people wish that one day the wind comes and exclaims

We have not any bread 'cos windmill doesn't work

Most of people don't do their jobs and the others shirk

                        There on that distant hill

                                     Windmill stands still

I stop and go to visit one of my relatives near the mill

Sun is shining down to us

I think of flying in the sky, what a pleasant feel

An old man is reaping wheat on his ground

And there a hunter is going to the forest with his hound

I can see giant ships approaching the shore

One, two, three - I'm counting them - four and more

Green mountains and silver lakes, it's like a place in Heaven

Beautiful girls with their hair as black as feather of raven

Oh my dear God order the wind to blow

Give us your gifts and make the river flow

                        There on that distant hill

                                      Windmill stands still

Now I have reached and miller kindly smiles

I sit on a stone and rest after walking for some miles

Miller said:" Why have you come with this heavy sack

Don't you know the mill doesn't act and you must get back

We were conversing, suddenly the wind began to roar

Both of us got in the mill from the rear door

After grinding my wheat I returned

A sack of flour and a good friend were the things that I earned
